Good morning, my chronically employed friend. This week in the make work suck less group chat... 👏 One good thing. Some good news shared in the group chat this week: The perfect job finally opened up for one of our own! So perfect that it was shared by at least 3 friends. Crossing all the fingers and toes for her. 📮State of the business. Last week we talked through how to "quiet quit" when the market is holding you hostage and your job, while a financial lifeline, is also slowly sucking the will to live out of you. Well I heard from a few of you who were a joy to have in class that not doing 200% every single minute feels as unnatural as breathing underwater - even when you want to stop giving everything you've got to Evil Corp. I get it. Disconnecting your identity and value from your career is a process. So here are a few more tips to ease the transition from A+ overachiever to B- Baddie. Remove the temptation to work after hours. Take the work apps off your phone. The minutes you spend checking Slack "real quick" at dinner or responding to an email in between doom-scrolling at 2am add up. The Europeans have Right to Disconnect laws for a reason. Leave work at work (or at least during work hours). At the very least, silence the notifications. Block your calendar. 2-4 hours every day should be blocked from meetings so you can actually get your job done (or stare into space), and not feel like you need to log on "for a minute" on Saturday morning to catch up. Here's what to say when they try to book over that time: My calendar is up to date with my working hours and availability. Remind yourself of your worth. If that last review left you doubting yourself, reminder that women get negative personality feedback in 76% of reviews, compared to JUST TWO PERCENT in men's. You are not the problem; you're a badass. Imagine the day you finally quit. Maybe you don't know the exact date that will happen, but just think of how they'll need to replace you with four people when you leave. And those four people will still not measure up. Look up with your CEO makes. Put that number on a post-it note on your monitor. In 1965, CEOs made 21x their average worker. In 2024, that disparity rocketed to 281x. Understanding that the C-suite lives in an entirely different reality makes you realize you're doing too much to line their pockets. Escape the enthusiasm penalty. Remember that the harder you work, the more work you get. Being good at your job only gets more piled on. And right now, you're not trying to be the best at your job, you're just trying to survive until something better comes along. 💬 What's keeping me going this week: Instead of gossip, I'm not gatekeeping the things keeping me sane. Not ads, just sharing what works for me.
Do me a favor - if you enjoyed this Saturday morning drop in your inbox, forward it to a few friends. Until next Saturday, you got this. Did someone share this group chat with you?

Good morning, my chronically employed friend. This week in the make work suck less group chat... 👏 One good thing. Standard Chartered is facing scrutiny from regulators in Singapore and Hong Kong after CEO's absolutely bottom-of-the-barrel remarks about replacing "lower value human capital" with AI this week. Love that for them. 📮State of the business. It started as a question that kept popping up everywhere. On LinkedIn. In group chats. In conversations with friends navigating layoffs,...
Good morning, my chronically employed friend. This week in the make work suck less group chat... 👏 One good thing. Google DeepMind workers just voted to unionize in the UK over militarized AI tools potentially creating a model for workers to object to other morally bankrupt business objectives. Speaking of AI... 📮State of the business. Over the last four years, the most common question I get from clients is "How do I beat the ATS?" There's a lot behind the question: conflicting resume...
